Alpine climbing course Romsdalen
Romsdalen - The Nordics' answer to Chamonix, this is the optimal arena to learn what you need to accelerate your own development as an alpinist. Over the course of four days we build a solid foundation of skills for climbing in alpine environments.
Contents:
Four days with everything from buddy rescue on glaciers, climbing on snow and ice, crampon technique, navigation, trip planning and alpine rock climbing. In short: everything that goes into safe and efficient travel in alpine environments. Join us for educational days in the mountains – and if you want a tailor-made program over more or fewer days, we can arrange it.
After completing the course, the goal is that you will be able to move safely in alpine terrain and climb easier alpine routes on your own. You will also have nok experience to join as part of a more experienced rope team on larger and more demanding alpine tours.
Day 1: Snow and ice
Focus on basic techniques for safe movement in steep snow and ice. We work on crampon technique, use of ice axes, efficient movement and risk assessment in varied terrain. Self-arrest and different types of snow anchors are also included.
Day 2: Glacier training and buddy rescue
Review of glacier structure, dangers and safe route selection. We train rope layer routines, anchoring in snow and ice, and various methods for buddy rescue from crevasses. The goal is to give participants safety and independence on glaciers.
Day 3: Alpine rock climbing techniques
Practical training in effective and safe climbing in alpine environments. We cover natural belays, different types of pitches, rope layer communication and movement techniques on both fixed and loose rock. Belays, belay methods and equipment are reviewed in detail.
Day 4: Personal skills training
A day to consolidate knowledge by climbing an easier alpine route under supervision. Focus on independence, flow and application of techniques from the previous days.
