Avalanche course in Romsdalen! (2-3 days)

Steep peaks also mean steep fields of snow – and Romsdalen is an incredibly exciting and beautiful place to learn about some of the most challenging things we encounter out there: snow and avalanches .

Through our tailor-made avalanche courses, you gain practical experience and solid knowledge on how to travel safely in the winter mountains. We combine theory with field exercises – always with a focus on safe travel and good decision-making.

Target group :
The course is suitable for both those who are new to ski touring and want to learn the basics, and for those of you who already have experience but want to build on your knowledge. We adapt courses to your experience and wishes, with a suggested basic course below:

On our avalanche course in Romsdalen you will learn how to make safe choices in the winter mountains. Under the guidance of an experienced IFMGA peak guide, we will go through everything from basic snow understanding to trip planning and group dynamics.

After the course, as a participant you will be able to:

  • Use avalanche warnings, terrain maps and plan day trips based on avalanche danger and terrain selection.

  • Perform basic rescue (searching with transmitter/receiver, probe and shovel)

  • Identify avalanche terrain and use decision support tools for safer route selection.

  • Reflect on your own choices and group dynamics to improve safe travel in the mountains.

    • Good physical fitness – you should be able to walk at least 800–1000 meters in altitude in a day and 300 meters in altitude per hour.

    • Basic skiing skills in varied terrain (off-piste) and snow conditions.

    • Own equipment for ski touring (skis with traps, boots, poles, bag, avalanche beacon, shovel and probe). Available for rent locally.
