Our favorite ski tours in Romsdalen
Classics and hidden gems from the guides in Tindekompaniet !
Romsdalen is one of Norway's most beautiful and varied areas for top tours. Steep mountains, deep valleys and a combination of fjords, mountains and green meadows that is very unique. Here you will find everything from easy ski peaks to complex steep ski tours for the experienced. We in Tindekompaniet live and work right in the heart of the valley, and over the years have developed our clear favorites. Here we share some of them with you!
Church roof (1439 m)
No Romsdalen hiking list is complete without Kirketaket! This is perhaps the most iconic peak in the area, or at least the most famous ski mountain. The hike offers a beautiful descent towards Isfjorden and provides a fantastic view of both Romsdalshorn and Vengetindene. Although the hike is quite long, it is well worth the effort.
A very cool variant is to climb Østeggen up with skis on your backpack, and then ride the vestrenna or normal route back down! Note, a very demanding trip that requires you to be able to climb in winter with belay and rope. We can also guide this trip if you wish! Read more here: Østreggen Church Roof
Difficulty: Medium
Altitude: approx. 1300
Season: Dec–May
Snortungen (1198 m.a.s.l.)
Snortungen lies majestically right above Isfjorden, and offers everything you could want in a good ski touring : varied terrain, possibility of good snow conditions and beautiful, varied views of the sea and mountains. The ascent follows a natural ridge formation and can be quite demanding to walk safely – we recommend a guide! The descent possibilities are endless, from steep to playful. We are happy to show you this trip – one of our favorites.
Difficulty: Medium
Altitude: approx. 1200-1400
Season: Dec–April
Nyheitind from the south (1598 m above sea level)
This peak is located east of Isfjorden and offers one of the most magnificent views in the entire area. The route follows a narrow, avalanche-prone valley and requires good conditions and avalanche assessment. It is a long hike in varied, steep terrain that requires you to have a little more experience. The skiing opportunities in here (once you get there) are unparalleled, and here you are mostly alone. Large south-facing flanks or north-facing pots of cold snow. The variation is incredible! But again, this is serious terrain with large avalanche paths that you have to navigate the entire trip.
Difficulty: Medium to demanding
Altitude: approx. 1400- 1800
Season: February–May
Nyheitind is perfect for those of you who have done the classic tours and want something new, a little more remote and genuine.
Blånebba (1320 m.a.s.l.)
Blånebba is known for its fantastic views of Trollveggen and the entire Romsdalen valley. The hike is accessible, yet exciting – and perfect for a half-day hike or for those who want to combine several peaks in the same area. We won’t say more, but there are great variations here, and very steep alternatives for those who want this. A popular hike with good reason and suitable for less experienced and.
Here you can also combine cleavage to top for those who want something difficult! Get in touch and we'll tell you more.
Difficulty: Easy to medium
Altitude: approx. 900
Season: December –May
Although many of these trips can be done on your own in good conditions, we always recommend having a certified IFMGA guide with you – especially in unfamiliar terrain or in demanding snow conditions.
