Climbing on Romsdalshorn with Tindekompaniet
Romsdalshorn is one of the most iconic mountains in Norway – a landmark you see from the valley and immediately want to stand on top of. At Tindekompaniet You will get a safe, professional and personal experience on your way to this classic mountain.
We choose the route according to the conditions and what suits the group best. We either walk the Normalveien via Halls Renne , or we take the more alpine and airy Nordveggen . Both provide a fantastic experience, but with completely different characters.
Tour description Nordveggen – an airy and beautiful line
The hike starts at the heart of Vengedalen , a short drive from Åndalsnes. From here we follow a steep but beautiful path up the ridge that leads us into the high mountains. Along the way we get views of the entire Romsdalen valley – a perfect place to experience the excitement.
When we reach Gapet , we get ready for rope work and technical climbing. It usually takes us 1–1.5 hours to get there.
The first hundred meters of elevation gain offer easy scrambling, before the terrain rises and we move into pitch lengths with climbing up to grade 4 (Norwegian). Here we climb six–seven pitches and around 250 meters of elevation gain. The climb is steep, but logical and with good holds where you need them.
After about two hours on the wall, we stand at the top – with a view of Trollveggen, Romsdalen and the entire surrounding mountain world. A true classic in Norwegian mountain sports.
Descent
We follow largely the same line back down, and rappel safely in six stages back to the foot of the mountain.
Level and recommendations
The hike has around 800 meters of elevation gain , and a significant part of the day takes place in exposed terrain with ropes. Experience with heights and mountain terrain is therefore an advantage.
We usually start at 7:00 AM, and the entire trip takes 6–8 hours , depending on conditions and group dynamics.

Good physical fitness: You should be able to walk at least 800–1500 meters in altitude in a day, with a capacity of approximately 400 meters in altitude per hour.
Climbing experience is an advantage, but not necessary. Romsdalshorn is a steep and airy peak so it is very important to be comfortable with heights. You can participate in an introductory climbing course with us if you want to prepare yourself better. Please contact us.
Be in good nok health to travel in exposed terrain in the high mountains.
